BUZZ PLEASE READ THIS : this archive contains 3 files - the original buzz 1.04 : you need to install it before applying the following updates - buzz 1.1 update : you need this before 1.2 update - buzz 1.2 update (current version) Jeskola Buzz is a self contained FREE musical workstation for any Win32 enabled Pentium (or equivalent) PC by Oskari Tammelin. Buzz Includes everything needed to produce and record any style of music. Sounds are created through the use of modular Generators and Effects called machines. These machines create/modify sounds which are sequenced through Patterns much like the old Trackers you may remember (or still use!) from the days of the Amiga, and DOS. Highlight of Buzz features: Generator Library A Generator in Buzz is anything plug-in that produces sound. This could be a synth, sampler (tracker), or anything else a developer can pull out of the SDK and their own imagination. Each Generator has its own set of parameters which may be modified either by opening their window and physically sliding them – or by "scripting" their parameters in the pattern creation screen. An alternate method of changing a machines parameters is to use continuous MIDI controllers from a hardware MIDI device. (See MIDI Support) Effect Library An effect in Buzz is exactly what it sounds like – anything that modifies an audio stream. Upon initial installation, Buzz contains many useful effects – and many more may be found throughout the site. All Effects have individual parameters which function exactly like Generator parameters. 100% Real-time Operation Buzz is built to work in real-time. As you move sliders, and add notes – they are instantly in the mix. You can hear everything you do as you go. On a moderately fast PC (P2-300+), Buzz is stable and quick enough to modify, write, and record music completely in real-time. Machine Developer SDK As mentioned before, programmers are encouraged to expand the functionality of Buzz. So far, a few solid developers have released many amazing machines, and this will continue. There is NO limit to the sounds Buzz can create. WaveTable Support Like all trackers of the past, Buzz has complete support for samples, and insturments. Unlike other audio software - in Buzz, samples may have many different purposes and features - based on the machine they are used in. This may include time-stretching, beat-matching, stereo, and basic or complex envelopes. Buzz currently supports .xi insturments (with mappings) and 16 bit 44Khz .wav mono samples. MIDI Support Although very limited, Buzz does support some forms of MIDI. The main MIDI support within Buzz is through that of "Continuous Controllers". This means that any parameter within Buzz may be tied to a knob or fader on any Hardware device. Note, these devices are currently quite expensive. We will be releasing plans on this site to build your own Midi knob box for under $100 US. Although this will take a small amount of electronics knowledge, it is a fairly simple device which will provide endless hours of audio tweaking in Buzz. VST Plug-in Support Through the use of the Rout VST Plug-in (A standard Buzz Machine), any available VST Effects may be used within Buzz. This opens Buzz up to over 100 additional audio filters. Wave Recorder No musical workstation could be complete without a simple way to output streams of flowing audio. Buzz contains a simple yet effective way to record all playback, including real-time machine parameter modification and pattern changes. CPU Monitoring Keep track of your system status at any time with the CPU monitor - which easily breaks up each machines actual cpu usage in real-time. Hot-Keys Much like the trackers of yesterday, Buzz is built around tons of keyboard commands to help complete nearly every task with speed. Too many more to list Buzz is a complete music studio. There is no simpler way to look at it. The modular nature of Buzz makes it arguably the most powerful Audio application on the market. The interface (although hard to initially grab for some), is streamlined and built for speed. A P2-400 can easily run 30 machines at once, without lag. Consider it a portable, free Pro-Tools system for the rest of us.
